YOU PAY HIS TAXES

TCEF’s focus includes shining a light on the excess and folly of huge state and local tax abatements given to some of our state’s worst corporate polluters. In Brazoria County, TCEF and community partner Better Brazoria commissioned independent economists AutoCase to examine tax breaks given to 14 polluting corporations by local government.

The jaw-dropping findings showed that more than $2.1 billion in tax revenue had been given away to polluters like Freeport LNG, and that corporations had received an average of $1.93 million in tax breaks for each new job promised. Freeport LNG alone received over $1 billion in tax breaks, and more than $5.9 million for each new job promised!

TCE Fund and our community partners strongly oppose corporate tax breaks and believe they are bad for local taxpayers. When the recipient not only receives tax breaks at the expense of local tax relief and / or better local services, but also contributes to severe pollution in Brazoria County’s air and water, we believe corporate tax breaks are morally bankrupt.  In response to the Autocase report, TCEF, Better Brazoria and others are organizing to call on local elected officials to stop authorizing tax breaks for polluters.
